Did both Stegul (I know that’s not right lol) brothers play WR for Grove? Was thinking the older brother played RB but could be wrong Austin was WR Preston was an all purpose back, run, catch, KR you name it and he scored TD's Lined up as a WR quite a bit and took a lot of Jet Sweeps

Struggling with a name, here. Mountain Grove had a back, really good. I think 1989 (I could be wrong) was really tough. Not sure of the year.. late 80's early 90s Like I said, I think 89

We beat them one of those years and had 2 1,000 yarders and almost a 3rd as well (Brown, Cousins, Austin)

SALEM RB: David McKewan-88-100-842yd-43pts- 10/1record 89-138-1492-157pts-10/1record 90-164-1446-204pts-8/3record He was also the kicker. Robby Owens-98-164-1531-82pts-11/2record 99-154-1556-162pts-12/1 record Joe Harris-Dont have stats but he might be the career leading rusher. He was a three year starter in the backfield Zane Kaiser had great numbers, also a three year starter, played in a one back set, had a ton of yards Note most Salem backs didnt have many carries, 15 a night would be about average. Im sure i missed some but these are ones I came up with off the top of my head.

"And with questions, the presence of knowledge returned to our world" ... author: unknown
I don't have my current record book in front of me, but this info is from the 2018 or 2019 SCA book.
Rushing Yards in a Career 5542 - Chance Dry, Ava 4525 - Trystan Short, Mountain Grove 4136 - Scott Williams, Ava 4013 - Dustin Johnson, Ava 3968 - Greg O'Neil, Houston 3780 - David McKeown, Salem 3716 - Zane Kyser, Salem 3505 - Joe Harris, Salem 3485 - Daniel Porter, Liberty 3435 - Evan Williams, Mountain Grove
Rushing Yards in a Single Season (Sonny Stringer had 2315 but I dispute that. I think that is total yards from scrimmage, not just rushing) 1937 - Cameron Carey, Thayer (2010) 1918 - Daniel Porter, Liberty (2010) 1888 - Kyle Clinkingbeard, Ava (2011) 1885 - Tim Grover, Mountain Grove (2002) 1853 - Chad Neuroth, Mountain Grove (2006) 1843 - Chance Dry, Ava (2004) 1808 - Greg O'Neil, Houston (2005) 1801 - Trystan Short, Mountain Grove (2015) 1792 - Garrett Young, Thayer (2017) 1786 - Connor Blair, Thayer (2011)
Rushing Yards in a Single Game 455 - Evan Williams, Mountain Grove (2008) 392 - Connor Blair, Thayer (2011) 391 - Willie Cousins, Willow Springs (1991) 349 - Jeremy Markum, West Plains (1993) 338 - Zane Kyser, Salem (2013) 332 - Rutt Atkinson, Mountain Grove (1939) 325 - Kyle Clinkingbeard, Ava (2011) 315 - Chance Dry, Ava (2005) 307 - David Beasley, Houston (1969) 306 - Tim Grover, Mountain Grove (2002)
Rushing Touchdowns in a Single Season 33 - David McKeown, Salem (1990) 33 - Chad Neuroth, Mountain Grove (2006) 30 - Bryan Porter, Liberty (2014) 29 - Sonny Stringer, Willow Springs (1952) 29 - Daniel Porter, Liberty (2010) 28 - Chad Keefe, Salem (1992) 27 - Chance Dry, Ava (2005) 27 - Jaelon Acklin, Liberty (2013) 26 - Kenny McGowan, Mountain Grove (1971) 26 - Corey Mayfield, West Plains (1994) 26 - Rob Owen, Salem (1999) 26 - Joe Harris, Salem (2002)
I would say the best running back in SCA history can probably be found on one of those list but there were others. (just as a side note, since there is no one to defend West Plains. Mayfield and Markum both should be on any list of the better backs the conference has seen. Especially since the 1980s). Chad Keefe from Salem was a QB but would have been a running back at any other school. He is a 2 time SCA BOY winner.

If you were to ask any somewhat older time about the best backs, usually the names Harold Noirfalise from Houston and Larry Collins from Mountain Grove will come up. Other names you would probably hear would be Craig Peabody and Rick Boyce from Cabool, John Finley from West Plains, David Beasley from Houston, and Powell Humphreys from Thayer. If you were to ask a REAL old timer, you would probably hear the names of Weldon Sanders from Ava, Doyle Langley from Thayer, LeVaughan Austin and Lowell Wade from Mountain Grove, and Lester Blackson of West Plains.

I can say the Porter kid was good. During those Lamar MVL games he along with Acklin were darn good. I can’t really input outside of that. That freshman back for Ava last year could blossom into the best the conference has seen. Seems like a stud.
