As MoSooner has said, here we go!.... - Sooooo many unkowns in opponents on this week's list to start the season. Let the wild ride start!!
Sidenote for those picking Willow vs St. Mary's - that school was 8 man last year and 11 this year. They did win quite a few games and I know we got new coach/system.
Ava at Buffalo
Grove vs Fair Grove
Willow vs St Mary's (Sat)
Liberty vs Strafford
Cabool at Harrisburg
Houston at Orchard Farm
Thayer at Linn (jv)
Salem at St James
Reeds Spring vs Monett
Nixa at Webb City

Yeah Jordanearl , I agree with you on this one . We'll see if Strafford is as good as speculation says they'll be . We'll also see how much better Liberty is after an injury ridden season last year. It should tell a lot about both teams .

I like the Salem-St James and Nixa-Webb City match ups for week one. Webb has shown trouble out the gate, season after season so Nixa may be a handful week one. Salem may be able to start the return of their "dominance" they posessed so many years ago.

What is the story on Thayer prepping to pizz pound a JV squad from a small school! Hancock coached Baseball at Linn before coming to Thayer. From what I gather Linn hasn’t had football since the 70’s and they are trying to get the program started back up. He’s helping them out by agreeing to play on a Friday night so Linn can see what it’s like playing under the lights to help get the community behind them. Hope it goes well for all involved and should help keep some guys fresh for conference play.

That Nixa vs Webb City may very well decide the COC championship. Spfld media will try to hype Liberty-Strafford and the Battle of the Groves, but I think the SCA schools roll.

The Lamar at Marshfield game should be a good game. Marshfield is projected as favorites in the Big 8 East this year. They have a good passing game and are huge uofront. Bull, 6"4" senior QB, son of the head coach, leads the Bluejays.
Lamar, along with Nevada, is considered as favorites in the Big 8 West. The injury bug has already hit Lamar with 2 all-state caliber players and players to watch in Southwest Missouri down for the season. Senior Running back Logan Crockett, 195 lb. wrecking ball, is out with a heart defect. And 6"4" 240 lb. senior defensive end, tight end Tyson Williams done for the year with a torn ACL in preseason. Both were key parts in Lamar's success from a year ago.

Most of you going with Liberty/Strafford and I definitely see why.
Just to be different I'm going with Salem/St.James - Salem won 2 games last year, so did St. James. I dont know what St. James has returning and the previews say Salem is low on returning lettermen but they are an SCA team.

Nixa and Webb has the potential to be a great game and will tell the entire state how serious a threat Nixa really is. I know folks around there are super excited for what they've got this year.
Liberty and Strafford looks to be an excellent matchup, there's never any love lost when it comes to the Indians and Eagles. I think Strafford has a good squad, I'm not sure they're a top team in the state like they seem to believe though. By the sounds of it Liberty thinks this is the best team they've had since the 2010s. If Liberty is that good they should beat Strafford by at least 14. I think it'll be a close game.
Sounds like Marshfield and Lamar could have a battle, that's one I'll be paying close attention to. I've got a cousin on the Marshfield squad but I don't think he's playing varsity yet. But I'll be following them closely over the next few years.

Liberty will handle Strafford…Webb will do the same with Nixa…Lamar will run all over Marshfield with ease.
I’m with Dew curious about Salem vs St.James

Webb City is going to have to play better than they did in the jamboree if they are going to beat Nixa. They were extremely sloppy versus Lamar and Seneca. Several fumbles and missed blocking assignments on offense and gave up several touchdowns to both teams. I know everyone is going to say it is just a jamboree but, in years past WC looked very good in the jamboree. It might take them a few games to get rolling, just like last year.
