Well, the SCA is 8-7 vs non conf opponents after 2 weeks. I realize that strength of schedule/quality of opponents comes to play and all that but we were 10-6 last year vs mostly the same opponents (other than the sudden schedule changes).
Are we ok or we got more work to do? Thoughts?

8-7 but two of those wins Humboldt ks and Stockton Agape not the toughest of competition.

I think FG is about as good as they get this year. Marionville is pretty dang salty as a C1 school. St.Clair was 9-2 last year a Salem played them close. Houston upset St.James. Cabools loss to Ash Grove was a bit of a upset IMO but they are 1-1. Thayer lost to a good Hayti team. I think at this point the jury is still out on up or down. More data is needed.

I do think we'd still have an 8-7 record had the schedules stayed the same. I dont see Strafford beating Ava and with Caruthersville out of players Grove should have rolled. Right now I'll say down but hope I get proved wrong. We'll have to wait until district play now to see.

If houston beating st james is what we are hanging our hat on then we are in trouble. I was looking at it from the perspective that St.James was at the bottom of their league and the thought process was that Houston was at the bottom or near the bottom of the SCA. Hence if your lower level teams are better than other conferences lower level team that usually means your league is pretty competitive top to bottom. Salem is also considered in the lower half of the SCA and played a St.Clair team that was 9-2 last year and won the Four Rivers conference. Marionville beating WS is no shock at all as Marionville is suppose to be a legit C1 team this year and WS is in a total rebuild mode. Now the Ash Grove beat down of Cabool is a bit of a surprise as I said and that loss does hurt the SCA over all strength. But Ava Beat Buffalo and I suspect Buffalo while a bit down is going to be a respectable squad who handled Forsythe. I think that the jury is still out on how strong the SCA is at this point. As I pointed out I believe FG is one of the strongest C2 teams not named Lamar in the area. |

Monett is on the skids as Aurora beat them without much trouble, East Newton Beat Mt.Vernon yeah that doesn't bode well for that leagues strength. Mac Co. rolled up the Irish. I know Mac. is getting better but it was a route. Jeez even Diamond ....freaking diamond beat Pierce City !! And Nevada didn't have much trouble with Hollister who everyone sort of had picked as being a Dark Horse contender. Seems like this year might be hard to peg.. |

The Big 8 is down well, down from 4 down counting both sides. The only good teams are Lamar, Mac County and Nevada. Mac and Nevada should be ranked. It’s a disgrace even in a loaded class 4 they aren’t at least 6-10 range. It’s severely top heavy. Cassville is down Mount Vernon could lose most of their games this year. Win 1-2 maybe. And Monett is down as well. Marshfield could be lucky or decent this year. We shall see. So those 4 teams are good, Lamar is great. But yes both conferences seem down. And guys I’ve told you, Springfield Catholic is horrid. They will be lucky to compete in this conference in football. Oh and Reeds is solid. They will finish near top 5. |
