The weather wasn't real bad necessarily but my final game in HS with Liberty in 08 was against Schaffitzal and FG in FG. It was pissing rain the whole day and they had been working on a new stadium which left their old stadium in one hell of a mess to begin with. It was already a mud pit and just one step above a shallow pond. Then right before kickoff half of the stadium lights went out but the game moved on forward. My buddy back in high school had a basketball court that was lit by a flood light off his parents garage and it felt like were playing a state playoff game under that flood light. It was a FARCE. (And of course Liberty would have won if not for these appalling circumstances  ) Second to that I watched probably the best team in Liberty history lose to Lamar at home when Lamar's best weapon was the nonstop 35 mph straight line winds. That was probably Lamar's best team also. Except for Carl Junction, a very good Class 4 team, Lamar turboed every team they played that year, including Liberty, and also the Class 3 runnerup Seneca. They broke the state record for scoring and was within a few touchdowns of breaking the national record. They also broke the state record for rushing yardage with over 7,000 yards with two backs, Petersen and Beshore rushing for over 2500 yards each. Lamar's best weapon was that it was loaded with speed and size and was the better team. I think 2011 was the high wind game at Liberty. 2012 and 2013 were also good games between the two. 2013 was the infamous "pizza game". both teams were loaded with very good players those years. |

I tried searching the Mosports site for information on the Pizza incident, but the post only goes back to 2015.
From memory, Lamar would always have food for the players after the game was over, usually sandwiches or other snacks. At the 2013 game booster club or parents bought Pizza Hut pizza for the team after the game. They had a table set up near the visitor locker room. This was also close to the area where fans would enter and exit the stadium. The crazy Pizza lady as she was called walked by the table and as she grabbed a box she said something like "You may have won the game, but I'm taking a pizza". As she took one of the boxes and continued for the exit. I can't remember but I think she did have some other comments about Lamar winning.

I didnt see it happen, but I went by the Lamar locker room, they had the table set up with pizza, There was music playing and the players were laughing and celebrating, and I saw a few liberty fans standing nearby glaring at what was going on. I thought to myself, "this may not be good...." and went on. I heard later about the lady going up and taking some pizza. Lamar fans just laugh about it, we know that lady doesnt represent the team or the town. Every communit has a fan or two that go over the top. We have a lot of respect for Liberty, and know they must have a lot of built up frustration knowing that they have had a couple teams capable of winning state, but just couldnt quite get by Lamar. |

Mom's tend to get emotional when their Kids don't succeed at the level the Mom's desire. As I said I had to chuckle at the Houston Mom above the tunnel "IF Grove can Beat them they Will Cheat them" will forever make me smile, cause if that's how She Copes then so Be it. I know the Houston Staff and level headed fans don't feel that way....and I'm sure the Mom From MV drowned her sorrow's in Pizza and Ice Cream she probably couldn't help herself after the game!
