Some talk that a change to the District Format might be coming in some form or another AGAIN. I know that some Football coaches want to go back to the 3 game 4 team district again.
Makes sense to me as I never was for the 8 team district and eliminating the Sectional round of the Playoffs and making the sectionals the New District Championship. By basically eliminating the Sectional round you cut the District titles across the state in half. This of course is a momentum killer for programs trying to build a tradition. Winning a district is huge for a Program and Community and entails a lot of positives for the coming years. I think about this in the Old format
Just wondering if anyone else had heard these rumblings and the thoughts on another possible change in the district format?

The one change I would make to the current system is don't put 4-5 teams in the same conference in the same district. Unlike basketball it's not as easy to see someone twice a year. Plus if all the good teams are in one conference they're knocking each other off while a team with a 4 win record is a district champ elsewhere. Yes that makes longer travel and more gas used but if our smaller schools can do that as it is ....
Another idea would somehow give strength of schedule points to a team. If you play down a class but playing last year's state champs/semifinalists/etc it should be worth something compared to playing a 1 win boothill team.
Other than these I like this format compared to the old one.

Where are you seeing/hearing these rumblings about changes?
I like the current format as well as any of them we have had. No system is perfect.
There is really no way to break up conferences from the same district. The travel times for district would be crazy if you started doing that. Then everyone would be upset about that.

Not sure about going back. Most the coaches I have talked to like this new format better.
In fact the format I have talked about for years is becoming more and more popular... Drop conferences in football. 8 team Districts you play everyone in your district (plus schedule 3 games with anyone you want).. Top four of the district make the playoffs and when you bracket you cross-district so that you dont play the same teams immediately. Its the way other states do it for a reason.

I doubt in the near future that you can do away with Football conferences....Once you start factoring in travel for rural schools and such during the course of the season it becomes a drudgery.
Talk to a Coach in Ark. and traveling 3-4 hours away for all away games is not abnormal.
Look at MH Ark. schedule First away game Pearcy ARK.... 4hrs away. 2nd away Game Pulskai Academy Little Rock 3hrs away, 3rd away game 3hr to Siloam Springs, the closest away game for MH is Green Brier at a little over 2hrs. That is insane and Ridiculous. Believe me Players opt out from Schools in Ark do to travel..
It always amazes me that people don't look at these issues when it comes to Students and how it effects their quality of life and academic performance. It's a travesty to formulate some supposedly better play off system that runs over the course of a season while that system undercuts student participation and effects the student athlete in the classroom.
Think about Thayer and Cabool and other far flung rural schools and how this could effect them travel wise if conferences go away. Think about this if Reeds Springs had to Travel 3-4 hours for away games 4-5 times a year do you not think that would effect the Program long term? And let's not even talk about the waste of the taxpayer money on Fuel, Bus maintenance etc.
One of the reasons they went to this system was to protect the Conferences and to not create a Monster of a system that required travel. In truth Missouri should be forward thinking and have two Playoff Systems one for the Larger Urban and Suburban schools.... Maybe they do away with traditional Conferences Let's Say Class 4 and up and go to state mandated 8 team conferences and let Class 3 and below keep their traditional conferences for travel reasons and old rivalries and then have a old school 4 teams in a district system.

Look at how much travel West Plains has to do. And it does adversely affect the classroom performance.

I and several other people in the conference have raised this same thing about Salem. We all hate that drive every other season. But imagine Salem athletes and fans. they are making that trip a whole lot more times then us. Is there not a local conference up there they could join?

It's just the NFL lite now.... Bowls will go away or mean even less and eventually the P4 will have a 16 game playoff. It's about $$$$$. The only good thing now about the NIL situation is that the Cheaters I'm looking at you Bama/OU/ND/OhioST/FSU/Florida/Texas/Clemson/USC/Oregon/Neb/TxA&M/Georgia/Tenn/Mich./KU/NC(bball) etc. are no longer Protected by the NCAA while other's who attempted to ape their procedures of $$$ to players where punished for breaking the Rules. Now everyone is on a level playing field and can offer up $$$$$ to build the best team they can if their local business men and alumni pony up the cash.

Texass and their longhorn network started all of this imo. I hope the SEC doesn’t allow special treatment to those overrated entitled brats.
