Half way point of the season finds us down to 2 unbeaten teams left in the SCA. So let's get started with Week 5 of the Dew /ET Review!
Liberty at Willow,,,,Willow looks to rebound from a terrible week 4 defeat,,while Liberty looks to right the ship after being shut out in the 2nd half against Ava. But do hold off a come back bid by the Bears. Look for the Eagles to come out guns blazing,,,,Liberty 35 Willow 13
Grove at Cabool,,,, The Bulldogs continue to struggle the Panthers just keep "running" wild. Huge dose of Otwell and Short are to much for the Dogs in the Pit,,Panthers 5-0 48-0
Ava at Salem,,,, Should be the best game of the week in the SCA. Ava seemed to find there rythm in the 2nd half against Liberty. Look for them to roll in to Dent County with some momentum.....Bears 27 Tigers 14
Thayer at Houston,,,,Both teams coming off big wins week 4,,Thayers salty defense controls this game in Texas County,,,,Bobcats 28 Tigers 6
There you have the ET preview for week 5,,get out and enjoy some Friday night lights this weekend!
And now the DEW version - ET is right. The halfway point, love it or hate it is here. We should be in week 2 (thanks MSHSAA) but I can save that subject for another time. And to think we have only 1 week of the NFL in ....
Liberty (4-0) at Willow (3-1).
You all know that I despise picking against my team and it hurts to do so. I still think they are better than what they showed last week, and some of the kids have been talking about how they didnt unite or make a stand against Grove. Is Grove better? Sure. But the only way to get better is to stand up to all opponents, not just the ones you think you can beat. This game is at the Bear's Den, and rain (so far) is forecasted. I think that and a resurgence by Willow should make for a better game. If I am wrong, I want you all to keep in mind that the attitude of this team is far better than the teams of the past. These kids want to do well, but are at times still wading uncharted waters. I will go with ET and his predicted score.
Grove (4-0) at Cabool (0-4)
Cabool picked Grove for Homecoming. Some people will make a big deal about that and others just will overlook it. This isnt my fight, but folks look at the schedules. Most homecoming games need to be midseason not week 2 or 3. Having said that Grove looked awfully sharp and will be hard to stop as it is. Grove rolls in this one 48-6
Thayer (2-2) at Houston - (1-3)
Thayer is starting to look like Thayer again. Houston played Salem close and rolled over Cabool so the big Mo (momentum) may be starting to build in their favor. This game will tell a lot about seeing who is where. I still take the Bobcats to get over. 500 in this one 28 to 12
My game of the week, Ava (2-2) at Salem (3-1)
The last few times these 2 have played has produced some dandy games. I dont expect any different here. This is, believe it or not, the first road trip this year for Ava. They have already ran through the Grove/Liberty gauntlet and even though lost both games, survived it. Salem has played a softer schedule and a close game with Houston, and falling to 1-2 (at the time Thayer). So my edge goes to Ava even though Dent County is a hard place to play. Ava 21 Salem 19
Sidenote - I mentioned Ava has already gone through the Grove/Liberty gauntlet. After this Friday they and Willow will be the only schools who have seen the uppper end (or what should be) of the conference. I really beleive, and only time will tell, this will make an interesting race for 3rd, 4th, and 5th place in the SCA. Just like the SEC, this conference has good games everywhere, not just for the creams of the crops. Can I get an AMEN???
There you all have the ET/DEW review for week #5. Everyone stay safe, and may there be no more injuries anywhere. Thank you all for your support.
