What does everyone have coming back next year?
Grove graduates some extremely talented seniors. They will take a big step back next year.
I believe Mt View also will graduate some good ones, they will bring their QB back which always helps
What is the word on Ava, Salem, and Thayer for next year?

Ava will lose some speed and some of the size of their line but have some solid underclassmen ready to step up. Many Freshmen and Sophmores have had significant playing time this year which is huge for building for the future.

Grove returns 3 OL, 1 DL and two who saw a lot of action and 3 LB's. A QB who started 2 games while Carter was hurt and a WR/RB. We also had a Starter at LB who was lost for season after Jamboree who will be back. We have a core but will be down at the skills. We will compete if kids work hard in offseason.

They better hit the weight room even if they are involved in other sports, Grove was weak and soft in many areas. I would like to see the dedication to a real weight program.

We lose 5 seniors. We need an all around football culture, so plenty of work to do in the offseason. I think Ava wins again but there's a lot of time between now and then. Houston will return a ton but will they find more skill position players? Salem loses 20 if I heard right, so they will be hit HARD. And as always NEVER count out the Thayer Bobcats.

I just do not understand how Groves weight program has went from what it was 5-6 years ago, heck even 3 years ago....to what it is now?

Another question I am curious about, and depending on participation this could be a whole thread in itself....how does your team treat workouts on game day. Do the kids in your town lift/run on game day? Very curious to see the replies on this one.

Lamar lifts hard on game days, at least I know they did in the past. I believe everyone lifts hard in regular weights class for Friday games, but they show up for weights super early on Saturday games, even prior to boarding the bus for a long road trip like Mt View. Their weight program is unbelievable, and it's all because of early buy in. Because the kids start so early, it's not really that tall of a task to get all defensive and offensive lineman, and many of the skill positions, into the 1000lb club by their senior year, and most by the junior year.

I know when Johnson was in grove it was normal day of weights on game day. Before that, with Ary it was no lifting on game day. I heard that this year was back to no lifting on game day. I figured Lamar lifted, curious about the rest of the SCA.

I have never understood the no lifting on game day stuff. If you are lifting as you should it is not going to wear you out or make you tired for your game. It helps create a toughness that is needed. I think it is lacking at many places in the SCA. The reality is if kids are not willing to lift hard they are not going to be good football teams. Show me a team that wins and I will show you a team that gets it done in the weight room. But kids are babies today. Can't push them. Can't be tough on them. Can't have expectations on them. Then mom and dad whine when they do not win, do not play.
