While his comment was a tactful statement to use as motivation the fact is.....the comment was not truthful. Which is fine. Nobody looked down their noses or mocked liberty. Nobody really gave them a thought at all as a football program. And it wasn't that folks couldn't swallow Liberty winning it was the lack of let's say grace in doing so. That is something that some Liberty fans still don't grasp.
I also don't want to minimize the fact that I'm sure Liberty fans and players felt mocked and looked down upon, I'm sure those feelings where real. But When you have a bad run like MV had in the past I'm sure the general upbeat and jovial behavior of opposing fans and players could easily be perceived as mocking and nose thumbing. I doubt if that was the intent 99% of the time. I don't ever recall anyone looking forward to downing Liberty or brow beating them.

Not that it matters really, but do you see what's funny about these statements? Maybe your perception of our general jovial spirit was misconceived, as was our perception of disrespect. But, the fact remains, perception is reality for us small town yokels. I know that's the case for you Grovers, seeing as how you talk about that "Tradition of Excellence" so often.
