After seeing them in person, not only do I see no one beating them... Not sure anyone can stay close. They were already my pick to win Class 2 (probably just about everyone's pick) but they are so much better across the board than they were last year. This team would beat the team that won it last year (many of the same kids) going away. Big, physical, seem to have a lot more speed, and when one makes a mistake, another one is there to cover. Reminds me of the teams from 5 or 6 years ago. Different makeup for sure, but the way they play together it's very reminiscent.

Mosooner, I did not make it to the game on last Friday night, instead watched it online. After last year close game I was expecting Reeds Spring to play another tough physical close game. One of the concerns I had going into this year was replacing quarterback Case Tucker. Joel Beshore has more than replaced him at quarterback. I can't remember the last time Lamar had over 200 yards passing in a half.
The next two weeks are huge games against Class 4 McDonald County (revenge game) and Nevada both teams are undefeated and been winning by big margins.

I agree that this years Lamar team is better than last years team. The sophomores are now juniors. As Griswold said, these next two games will for sure be the toughest conference games Lamar plays this year. The McDonald Co. game is a revenge game. Lamar gave that game away last year. Nevada is loaded with almost everyone back from last year. They will be a team to watch out for in the next few years. They had 35 eighth graders and 43 seventh graders on the roster last year. If they all went out this year, that makes 104 kids out in grades 8, 9 and 10 this year. There has to be a few good athletes out of that many kids.
That is what Lamar lacks. Depth. Almost everyone is playing both ways. But, the Coaching staff do a good job rotating younger players in, giving them valuable minutes so they will provide that depth. Lamar is loaded with skill position players which allows them to save some of their best running backs for the defensive side. Through 2 games, the quarterback is the only ball carrier that has more than 10 carries. The rest of the carries are divided equally between 8 to 10 players. Then, because he isn't targeted very often, Gastel at wide receiver kind of goes unnoticed. But, he is as talented of a wide receiver as anyone in SWMO.
This Lamar team can put eleven players on the field that could play with any of the previous Lamar teams. They just don't have the depth or size that the 2013 and 2016 teams had. This years junior class and the freshman class are both loaded. So, for the next few years, it looks like Lamar should be a team to be reckoned with.

In no way do I see a repeat of last year. As one player put it, it was a wake up call. I really see Lamar rolling tonight.
Nevada is short a back, I understand. But it didnt hurt them last week. They try to confuse you with that offense but one of your strengths is that your kids are disciplined. That was one of the things I talked about last week... Its one thing to be big, fast, and physical. But when you have those attributes but also play a disciplined game you can be very dangerous. You may or may not turbo them, but you will win comfortably.
Just my worthless opinion.....

They don’t really lack depth. This is how Lamar has always done it. They almost always play guys both ways. Even when they have backups with experience. The starters and best available play until the 3rd Q then the players who you don’t see subbed in come in and they play. There’s 4-5 sophomores who are already stepping up and taking some earlier on playing time this year. One of the main reasons Lamar always seems to reload is they have guys who play half’s of games and quarters throughout almost every game of the year. It’s huge at the end of the day. So I can see how someone who doesn’t watch every game wouldn’t know that. But yeah. It’s not really a lack of depth, they just choose to play guys both ways. But you’re right, they have great conditioning that helps make that possible.

I’d say our passing works, because people have to respect it. The QB can throw unlike past Lamar QBs, and we have 3 guys who can catch, and one who’s as good as anyone in catching the ball in class 2. It’s not really catching anyone off guard. There’s plenty of film. It’s just hard to stop a team who has 9 guys with track speed running and catching the ball, and worry about the QB who runs at track speed and can pass. It’s a-lot to deal with.

Now just for something about this Nevada game. I think Nevada is being disrespected in class 4. Yes, it’s loaded but Nevada is a great team. I’m biased, but I see Lamar winning this one. Won’t give a score. My reason? Nevada’s D. I’m thinking Lamar will be able to get stops, while Nevada will struggle to stop Lamar’s plethora of weapons. Lamar will allow more points to Nevada then they will to any other team the rest of the year. Nevada’s O is absolutely no joke. If Lamar somehow stifled Nevada’s O and didn’t allow hardly anything to Nevada? Then I’ll be fairly surprised. And that’s a testament to how amazing I think Nevada’s O is. Because I think Lamar’s D is one of the better that they have ever had. It’s really good.
