First official practice on Monday. 3 weeks until the first games. Lets get this thing started around here.
1. Liberty - skill positions are going to be a strength. Return a lot on OL. Should be able to move the ball on anyone. If the defense can be solid, they are going to have a really good year.
2. Grove - really good QB coming back. They will be a tough night for everyone.
3. Ava - lots of question marks for the Bears. New coach. But they do have a stud RB that should help with a lot of those question marks.
4. Cabool - bring back some solid kids. They will give the top teams in the conf a ball game.
5. Thayer - new coach, new team basically. But they have the history and mentality that can help them rebuild.
6. Houston - put these last 3 teams in a hat and they could finish in any order. I will put Houston at the top of this group with the consistent staff they bring back.
7. Salem - know nothing about them, but sounds like they return very little from a down year last year.
8. Willow - been a struggle in bear land. New coach. If Wyatt couldn't win with this group, I don't see much chance they find much success this year under the new guy.

1. Ava: (I might be wearing my blue tinted glasses writing this) This was a close one between Ava and Grove. But Ava plays both Grove and Liberty at home this year so the Bears get the nod. New HC Casey Merrifield has coached under Swofford for over a decade and has been the offensive coordinator for the last several years. The new Defensive coordinator has also coached with Swofford for around a decade. I don’t think the Bears lose much in terms of coaching. Dan Swofford did a heck of a job building his coaching tree and mentoring these coaches. I expect this to be similar to when Acklin left Liberty and the new coach took over without the Eagles missing a beat. Ava lost a few good seniors from last year but return their entire defensive line, linebackers and most of their offensive line. The Bears also have a good Junior class that will look to fill in the spots left behind from last year’s seniors. Brayden Thorburn JR, Rylin Dickson JR, Hunter Adams SO and Grady Goss SR should be a pretty quick and athletic group to run the ball. Ava also returns their kicker Jeremiah Blakey who made kicks from as deep as 41 yards out last season. This isn’t quite a rebuild as it is a reload. QB play will be the biggest question mark going into the season.
2. Grove: Coach Rogers has done a great job rebuilding the Panther program and this senior class seem to be the ones responsible for turning the program around. It seems like they have a loaded senior class who can pass the ball well or they can beat you on the run. As I said earlier, I think the SCA title is a coin toss between Ava and Grove. I only gave Ava the win because it’s on the hill but this looks to be a great week 3 matchup!
3. Liberty: The Eagles never seem to have a bad year. I was curious what would happen when Coach Acklin left the program but the Eagles have kept on winning. Ava beat them twice last season 59-24 and again 48-6. Both teams lost some talented seniors and both teams return some great players. The Eagles might have the best QB in the conference this season. Hunter Adams was seemingly unstoppable against Liberty. If the Eagles can find a way to stop him then I think this is a one possession game, if not…
4. Thayer: Thayer has been loaded these last few seasons but they lost a huge senior class. Will the young guys be ready to step up by conference play? I don’t know much about this current group but know Thayer has an amazing tradition and I don’t expect them to lose many games.
5. Cabool: I’ve been impressed with the Bulldogs over the last two seasons. They continue to grow and take steps forward. I’ll be curious how they do this season and could see them finishing as high as 3rd in the conference.
6-8 Houston, Willow, Salem: Not really sure what to say here. These three can finish in any order.

Well let's see how wrong I can be this year, lol
1. Grove/Ava winner 2. Grove/Ava loser 3. Liberty Would not be surprised to see co-champs or even tri-champs this year 4. Cabool 5,6,7 - draw out of a hat and list them 8. Salem (with only 3 starters returning)

Outsider prediction. (Just really appreciate the SCA. Always a good time, and tough squads)
1. Ava (going to put defending squad at the top) 2. LMV They never seem to be “down” long. I predict a good season 3. Mountain Grove (They are a team that’s going to finish 3rd or win the conference.) 4. Thayer (I just don’t see them falling off farther than 4th. They have a program for the most part.) 5. Cabool I know nothing about the rest of the schools here. Tbh 6. Houston 7. Salem 8. Willow

1. MG-Panthers rise to the occasion 2. Liberty-If everyone stays healthy the Eagles seem poised to make a run 3. Ava-The top 3 could go anyway 4. Cabool-Offense looks solid, lots of question marks on defense 5. Thayer-transition year, but kids that know how to win 6. Salem-the sleeping giant of the SCA, there is talent in Dent Co, will it begin to show again 7. Houston-lost a lot of talent to graduation/transfer solid returning QB 8. Willow Springs-still a rebuild, might sneak up on some teams 4-7 spots could be competitive
I will have the play by play for Cabool on 88.1 FM, tune in if you want to check a score

My worthless prediction... but it will be used for bonus points on your one LOCK in the pickem contest...
1. Grove- Panthers climb back to the top of the league is complete 2. Ava - Some things change, but some remain the same. Bears will contend for title 3. Liberty- Eagles have talent. If either of the the top two slip up, they could win it. 4. Thayer - I would have trouble dropping them any further. They just always seem to find a way 5. Cabool- Really dont know a lot, but hearing good things about the offense. If they can get stops they could be tougher than many expect. 6. Houston- saw these guys at team camp. Numbers are not a problem there. Hopefully it will mean depth. 6 is a good spot for them could climb to 5 7. Salem- can they put it together and start to ascend back to the top? Not yet, but you have to start somewhere 8. Willow - For Dew, I hope Im wrong here. But using what I know, just really have to put them here.
