I remember a couple of years ago, Lamar came to Ava as a huge favorite and a long winning streak, but barely escaped with the victory. On the way to the game, I listened to the Ava Coach on the radio and he was building Lamar up to be some kind of unbeatable machine that Ava was lucky to be playing on the same field with. I guess it was his way of pumping up his team, because after Lamar jumped out to a somewhat comfortable lead, (I think 28-7), the Bears came storming back and had Lamar backpedaling. It was a game that even though Lamar held on to win, I came away from the game feeling as though they lost.
So, mofootball23, if you are a Lamar fan, it may be best to just let sleeping dogs, (Or Bears) lie. Every team still playing is capable of winning on any given Saturday. Ava is a team with a lot of heart. Lamar will have to match their intensity if they are going to advance.
Did you win that Friday? On that Friday? Did they lose that year? Has Ava ever won even 30 straight games? All of that is a negative ghost rider. When you don’t watch a team? You don’t know a team. Just because Ava came back that game doesn’t take away, or make either team not as good. Ava gave it their all and came back in that second half and came up short like the past three years.
Now to prove I’m not being an ass. I respect the hell out of the SCA. MVL and Ava have given Lamar the closet games out of any class 2 teams in the past 11 years. The only one to actually do it was Lathrop last season. But like I was saying, the SCA has good football teams in it. My beef was mainly with anyone truly thinking FAIR GROVE had a chance. There’s just a whole new talent level difference between the big 8 and the SCA and conference FG is in. I love what Swofford has done with Ava.
I know I’m not a familiar face on this board, but I wanted to clarify some things. I’m not here to talk crap on the SCA. Or even AVA. I don’t expect anything but a stemwinder come Saturday.
