By Bonehead - Yeah I dont know. But the only reason I can see why a school in this situation would fire their coach is because they have a for sure better hire already agreed upon. But if they did this with no one ready to take over then they are absolutely out of their ever loving minds. So this is via fb messenger, private message and right now I don't know if anything I tell here is true - He's allegedly been let go but they want him to stay here and teach, coach the weight room and conditioning program. If he's good enough to develop the kids he's good enough to coach. If this is true this only confirms my statement about the politicals. Which means like you say they got someone in mind or .... someone already here is getting bumped up (which has happened here before). Also by Bonehead - dew I have given you a lot of crap on here, but I feel for you and other loyal WS fans. This is a crap show of epic proportions. - MANY THANKS AND AGREE if they promote from within it makes you wonder what happened behind closed doors to convince the powers that be you could have done a better job

who in their right mind would take that deal to run conditioning and be a coach and let someone else take the head coaching job? It better be a no brainer pick for head coach. If it is promoting someone else from on staff then there is no way someone stays in that situation.

WS is a freaking Hot Mess of Stupid. They Give this Guy two years and hand him a Plate of Chicken Livers and Gizzards and want him to make them into Cordon Bleu!!!! They didn't even give the guy a Chance to utilize the new weight room.
I have no Clue if T-Payne is a Good Coach or not because how can you tell with what he had to work with? He was playing a average JV squad against against a Varsity schedule. If WS had cancelled their Varsity Schedule and Played a JV schedule that group would not of gotten close to being good.
WS has been threw a Slew of coaches Since Ary left.... and they have Ran all but one out of town that is Wyatt who was wise enough to get out on his own accord. I've heard the BS excuses that the coaches are to tough, not getting kids out to play, are poor in game coaches on off/def.
But in truth the Issue is Willow Springs it's self. Willow is nothing but a Basketball school who wants to win at football with out the Work and Sacrifice. Players don't play because they Don't want to Play. Every Coach at Grove From Ary to Johnson to our Current Coach has had dang good football players who don't play because they truly don't want to, every year it the same song and dance as they think about it, the Staff wants them to and makes every effort to get them out and in the end they would rather not play. Every School has this issue.... Well that is what is rampant at Willow some of the athletic players don't want to play. And no amount of boot licking by a coach is going to change that. If he loses because of lack of talent that he cannot force to play and compete I doubt another Coach with a different last name is going to change the WS culture.
WS ran Coach Schwalm out of town(yes I know he came back) maybe you could beg him to take the job but if I was him why would I want the headache and stress?

And then I find out Nick Saban is retiring. Mizzou loses their D coordinator too. Does football hate me now? We all agree this crap is wrong. What royally irks me (was gonna say pisses me off but the admin may get onto me) is I'm getting messages from parents whose kids are finding out via social media. Nobody at the school has told them yet. How can they not have a sit down with their own kids and parents first before babbling across the Ozarks that Payne is gone? The wind has gone from my sails with this school (other things besides football as well but I'll stay on subject).

Heard that Many parents and players are FURIOUS. Players are considering not playing and Parents planning to go to the School board and administration in protest and support of Coach Payne. This is a move that is not in best interest of building a program, or the kids.

This is a move that is not in best interest of building a program, or the kids. Seems to be such a unfair move IMO. Now if WS can bring in Some Home Run Hire with a Proven Track Record of winning then it could soothe the anger and confusion. But then again Tpayne wasn't given a Fair Shake at all. The HC as I've stated and everyone on this board and around the SCA with a semi-functioning brain would surly agree with this thought, that the Talent and youth he was given to coach well nobody would of done any better in 2022 or 2023. Tpayne surly knew the mess he was getting into with the Talent/Numbers/Youth and he was still willing to take on the Massive task of building for something going forward at Willow. He took the hit on his record and resume and then was chucked aside by the Powers that be without even having enough time to prove his worth either good or bad. Bad Bad optics for Willow as a Program and even if they have a homerun hire on paper it's possible that Parents and Players might not want to be associated with this type of sketchy actions.

If I was an assistant coach there, I would be hammering that resume to every school within a 3 state circle.

I've heard the same thing about petitions and going to the school board. I also said I'd sign the petition to keep him if anyone brings it to me.
Willow has, at least by their own words of mouth, been more an education than sports school. And by records/scores of years past along with requiring 30 credits and a senior project to graduate I would have agreed.
Here's the things they need to consider and haven't (not pointed just at the board, there's an administration that runs things) -
1. Coach Payne had nearly 40 kids play for him. Yes some came out during the season to set up for next year but they came. Only 3 maybe 4 quit. If these kids were willing to endure the embarrasing blowouts and not leave, then he and the kids deserve each other. And as mentioned many times only a very small handful of these kids were upperclassmen.
2. Missouri is going to open enrollment. Willow requires more credits to graduate (30) than those around them (anywhere from 22-24 from all I've asked). Many will make this excuse to let their kid attend a neighboring district, yet athletics will play a part as well. My understanding is you can attend one district over, not just anywhere if you are unsatisfied with any school based on their curriculums. So our athletes could basically leave Vanderbilt (us) for Tennessee, Ark, Kentucky....
3. Like you all have said, based on our last 19 years who the hell you gonna attract to come here? Yes we got some really decent 8th graders coming in and the 7th grade shows some promise, just needs more work. But have our mighty mite programs behind them done any good? (I didnt make any games this year so I don't know). I did hear we got a really good bunch of 3rd/4th graders but if the school keeps booting ooaches every 2 years are these kids going to be here then?
4. If we are going to fire coaches based just on their W/L records then the only coaches we should keep are Tennis and boys basketball. I bet you don't see other moves made

Will those kids be willing to sit out a year of Varsity in order to play at another school? That is also part of the open enrollment bills. So far, they have all stated that students using the Open Enrollment option to change schools, will be ineligible for Varsity competition their first year at their new school

I’ve heard a couple names, one in house and one outside, but neither will make a difference. At least TPayne was getting more kids out. Before Willow can compete again they have to get their athletes out and very few play football currently. It seems like Willow’s major sports all are down some. Not been very impressed with the boy’s basketball team since Wilson left. They’ve underachieved the last two years. Seems like some of the better talent is on JV, but I’m sure there is some politics going on. Girl’s basketball and softball have been ok, but the most success lately has been in golf and tennis.

This is a move that is not in best interest of building a program, or the kids. It’s going to take some patience with whoever is there, because it’s not going to turn around over night. Going to be tough to attract a very good coach after the way this was handled. Must have been a political move, or he ticked the wrong kid/parent off.
