Anyone going to challenge reloaded MVL?
Can MVL take the next step?
Can Ava return to form?
Dark horses?
Let’s chat. This board has been kinda dead!

If Ava can stay healthy they should be much better than last year. Losing all of our offensive skills players to injury last year hurt but opened the door to the underclassmen and gave them valuable experience. I’ve also heard Ava has had some great talent move into the district since last season. I also think Grove takes another huge step forward. I’ve enjoyed watching their progress under Coach Rogers. Thayer will be good as well and Cabool made some huge improvements last year but I don’t know much about them. I think Liberty is the team to beat but I don’t think they run the table. The conference looks like it’s getting stronger all around. It’ll be interesting to see how things shake out.

So with Bearup's comment I'll add this question SCA up or SCA down? I know Thayer graduated some but still my pick till proven otherwise. Most teams seem to be on the upswing so there may be a log jam in the standings.

This board has been kinda dead! 2 new coaches/systems in the conference to figure in as well (Willow/Salem). As of this posting, and because it is early, I think the answer to your dark horse question will be either Cabool or Willow. You can make a case for Salem as well but they're hiring a coach a year now and in my opinion that doesn't bode well (sorry Salemites) but that will also depend on what this new coach is building and doing there.

We may not be back up to previous standards yet but I think the conference as a whole is heading in a positive direction. The big question is who is ready to take the big next step.

Thayer will challenge Liberty, and you cannot count out Ava. What exactly would be the next step for Liberty? They won districts last year. Ava will be fine, getting the kid from Forsyth will be a nice addition. The huge question as far as dark horses is what will happen with Willow now that Coach Wyatt is in town. Grove will be improved and cannot be overlooked. Cabool will be solid and now with Coach Acklin there that will only make them better. Not sure what is going on in Houston. I believe Salem graduated their top kids and they have another new coach. So they will be a mystery. As far as whether the SCA is up or down who the heck knows and it depends on what criteria you are using to judge that. If you are judging whether it is up or down historically then I have to say it is down. If you are judging just based on the last few years then perhaps it is pointing up slightly.

I’d say the next step forward for the Eagles would be winning a playoff game whether it’s against Lamar or someone else. It will be interesting to see how the classes shake out. With several STL and KC schools opting out of sports last year, it really cause a lot of movement of schools to different classes than they normally are. I’ll be curious to see if Grove and Ava stay in class 3 or if they go back down to class 2.

Bonehead worded it well. As far as district assignments there may be a chance that we jump ava and grove. West Plains is talking about upping their tuition to the feeder schools. This may cause us to get more Richards and Junction Hill kuds than we have in the past. Mtn view may get some jct hill and maybe howell valley? All this will depend on board decisions and such. If it doesn't happen this year it may be the headline jext yr. I watch our school board meetings on YouTube and this was mentioned earlier this year.

I see, thanks guys. Just looking for some observations. I’d say the top of class 2 will be Lamar Lutheran St Charles and Liberty.
Thayer in class one obviously for the SCA. A machine.
Is Mountain Grove expected to move down?

Oh, I meant like winning a game against Lamar or another opponent in that round if a bracket shaped up that way. It’s always fun to see a SCA team going far into the playoff. The best small school conference it seems.

I thought Grove would be better last year and they certainly were. Now, if they make a similar jump this year, they could make things interesting.

Liberty/Thayer/Ava battling for the Top spot to close to call, Cabool is the Darkhorse of the SCA. WS and Grove fighting to be relevant. Salem a complete unknown with a lot of talent but a first year coach at the High School level and 25yrs old to boot gonna be a interesting by line for sure.....and I think it could be a rough year for Houston.
SCA should be up this year if you are talking the recent past.....
