www.facebook.com/groups/442531275938417For those who don't have facebook, this is a copy of the board agenda to vote on it's status in the SCA and to possibly leave the conference. Boy if this don't create an offseason topic!!

See ya. Weak minded people to wanna bail. What’s the alternative? Will they quit football and join a small conference?

It is listed as part of the Sup. Report. It is not listed as an action item. In most cases that means that he/she is going to be giving the board information. There should be no vote at this time. But you can probably get an idea of what they are looking at

The board debated the idea of leaving tonight, and 1 board member made a motion to leave. No one seconded the motion. A number of parents were opposed to leaving. I agree with Jordan it would send a horrible message to the students about competition.

Thats good to hear. They would be really dumb to leave the conference. If they plan on keeping football, which I assume they do, then they are going to have a really hard time finding a conference to join and if they do find one it is going to mean some crazy drive times to games. Then if you cannot find a conference you will have a horrible time filling up a schedule as an independent. The SCA schools are not going to keep them on their schedule if they are not part of the conference. They would be playing home school teams from kansas and oklahoma. Terrible idea.
They were able to play for a district championship this year from the toughness they have built from playing a SCA schedule.

I really think this is a upper Administration thing..... aka a Basketball move. I'm glad the board was smarter than those they have hired!!! While I understand that Cabool competing for a SCA title isn't going to happen every year the SCA but those bonus points for playing up as well as the tough competition get's Cabool ready for the Playoffs.
As was pointed out it would be beyond stupid for Cabool to try and fill a independent schedule of games from across the state and beyond. I'm sure that Thayer and Houston might still play them but outside of that what benefit would playing Cabool be district point wise for the rest of the Conference

If they were to join the conference of the teams they beat in districts it's only so much time before they are the quality of the teams in that district, and it wouldn't be a good one. East Newton is a good example, look at what they endure. Though their record often looks "easy" I sure as heck wouldn't want to write that off as a win because of the quality of conference they play in. Same with Vanderbilt in college. They looked good against the Mountain West and someone else, but yeah they struggle in the SEC. Don't think anyone could talk them into leaving.

It would have been easier to join a basketball conference (Frisco, Big Springs, or White River) but would have left football for dead

The ideas being floated were be independent in all sports, independent in football & join a basketball conference or apply to join the Southwest conference with the other teams from district football.

Doesn’t the southwest conference already have 8 members? Would they want to go to 9?
Being independent in all sports would be dicey and travel heavy.
Being independent in football and joining a conference in other sports would be a slow death for the program. Travel, no close rivals.

Definitely not something they put a lot of thought into, unless they have plans of disbanding the football team.

Supposedly there would be a opening in Southwest Conf as one of their teams was going to 8 man. Dr Hawkins was the main one pushing this on the board. They presented 9-11 enrollment numbers showing Cabool about 20 students lower than Thayer. Personally I think the school, city and community leaders need to study the dropping enrollment and look at solutions there. A starter on basketball/baseball left this summer after the family had difficulty finding rental housing.
